Cosmetic Injectables

There are two underlying factors that cause signs of aging such as fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin.  The first is your genetic makeup and the other is environmental damage.  Under the AHPRA Guidelines for registered medical practitioners who perform cosmetic surgery and procedures (1 July 2023), you will be required to give formal consent to the treatment and undergo a screening process prior to your treatment.  Our Registered Nurse, Kellie Jackson will provide you with a treatment plan and perform the injectable treatment.

Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Small amounts of botulinum toxin are injected to relax muscles and soften the appearance of fine lines. This is a prescribed medicine and is regulated under the Poisons Act 1964.

As well as improving facial appearance botulinum toxin can also be used to treat therapeutic conditions such as involuntary muscle spasms, TMJ (discomfort or pain in the jaw) and in the treatment of hay fever symptoms.

  • Short term effects can include headache, slight swelling, bruising and adjacent muscle weakness which may cause temporary drooping of the eyelid or eyebrow.

These are usually resolved within a few days. You will be fully informed of risks as part of your initial consent appointment.

You cannot receive anti-wrinkle treatments if you are pregnant or suffer from any neurological disease.

  • Do not rub the injected area immediately after the treatment. Remain upright for four (4) hours after the injection.

It is recommended that you do not exercise for 24 hours and you do not expose the area to full sun for four (4) hours.

Dermal Filler Injections

Hyaluronic acid (HA) or alternatively Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) is injected. These substances are natural substances (complex sugars) that stabilise the skin structure, attract and bind water and contribute to the elastic properties of the skin.

Dermal fillers are commonly used for filling in facial wrinkles and hollows, restoring facial volume to areas such as the cheeks, lips, jaw line and back of hands.

  • After being injected with dermal filler, you may experience redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness and itching to the area of treatment. These effects commonly resolve within a few days. You will be fully informed of risks as part of your initial consent appointment.

You cannot receive dermal filler injections if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or under 18 years of age (without parental consent). If you have had dermal filler implanted previously, you should consult with your doctor before receiving dermal filler injectables as there is a possibility of unknown risks.

  • You should not apply make up for 12 after the injections and for two (2) weeks should avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, UV light, freezing temperatures, saunas, Turkish baths, massage and pressure to the treatment site.

Bio Remodelling

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is injected into the area which stimulates the growth of collagen, allowing the body to naturally regenerate skin elasticity.

Common areas of injection would be face, neck and decolletage.

  • After being injected with hyaluronic acid, you may experience redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness and itching to the area of treatment. These effects commonly resolve within a few days. You will be fully informed of risks as part of your initial consent appointment.

You cannot receive this treatment if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or under 18 years of age (without parental consent).

  • You should not apply make up for 12 after the injections and for two (2) weeks should avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight, UV light, freezing temperatures, saunas, Turkish baths, massage and pressure to the treatment site.

Liposculpt

Our Low Level Laser (LLL) is used to encourage skin tightening at the cellular level. This is a non-invasive alternative to a minor facelift, tightening the skin and providing lift in areas of laxity.

The treatment regime involves two treatments per week for three weeks and then once a week for six weeks.

A treatment every six weeks will then help to maintain results. An anti-aging skincare regime will be recommended after this treatment for ongoing skin care.

  • Rare side effects can include nodules, lumps and skin ulcerations.

Common side effects can include pain lasting up to an hour, swelling, bruising, tenderness and itching. All side effects should only last for up to 4-5 days. A treatment review is recommended two (2) weeks after treatment.

  • Cool compresses may be applied, mild pain relief such as paracetamol may be taken for pain and compression garments may help to minimise discomfort. Antihistamines could be taken for itching and regular and gentle massage will help speed up the breakdown of fat cells. A healthy diet and exercise is recommended.

Mono & Long Threads

At Border Medical Laser and Aesthetics, we offer an alternative to surgical facelift procedures.  A thread lift is designed to lift or elevate the skin achieving a natural, tighter and younger looking appearance.  PDO threads are placed under the skin to reposition the skin at a lifted or higher level.

The major benefit of a thread lift is that it is designed to complement the natural contours of the face, giving a more natural and refreshed look. This treatment can be combined with other treatments.

  • There may be some down time after this procedure with some swelling and bruising. Most patients can return to their daily activities after treatment.

Avoid alcohol for 7 days prior to the procedure, do not smoke for 2 days before and 2 weeks after treatment.

This treatment is not recommended if you are pregnant, have an autoimmune deficiency, have a bleeding disorder or have keloid or hypertrophic scarring.

  • Heat inducing activities and strenuous exercise should be avoided for 2 weeks. Avoid touching and massaging the treatment area unless instructed to do so by our practitioner. Avoid alcohol for 24 hours and sleep on your back, slightly elevated.

Anti-Wrinkle for Hayfever Control

This treatment involves botulinum toxin being sprayed (or atomised) into the nasal passages, blocking the nerve endings in the nasal passage stopping the onset of symptoms and reducing inflammation of the nasal lining.

This treatment dramatically reduces the symptoms of hay fever, providing much needed relief for hay fever sufferers across the region. Effects of this treatment can last 4-6 months and for most patients one treatment a year is adequate for relief.

  • Directly after treatment you may have hay fever like symptoms, but this only lasts for approximately 10 minutes.
