Border Medical Laser & Aesthetics brings this most innovative procedure home from Europe. This procedure is the favourite of most women, as it removes blemishes, freckles, age spots, birthmarks, sun spots and sun damage from yesteryears. Many women cover up their dark blemishes with makeup to give them confidence. This procedure, which is unique to Fotona® Lasers, is the safest and most effective way to treat pigmented floors in the skin.

Our experienced laser consultant will always be mindful of unusual spots and will always refer you to a specialised skin specialist if a pigmented area is suspicious.

Why do Lasers Get Such Gold Standard Results?
Two lasers work synergistically together to achieve unrivalled results.

The Fotona® Q-Switched Nd: YAG 1064 laser and the green light KTP 532nm laser are gentle, non-abrasive lasers to use on the skin. They work in a 3-step fashion.

Light Absorption - The short nanosecond pulses of intense light pass harmlessly through the top layers of the skin to be selectively absorbed by melanin pigment.

Mechanical breakup of melanin - The laser light is transformed into photo acoustic waves which mechanically break up the melanin pigment into minute particles.

Pigment Removal - The minute particles are swept up by the body’s immune system and metabolised out of the body.

Prior to Your Visit
Every person wishing to be treated at Border Medical Laser & Aesthetics will require an appointment with our experienced laser consultant. At this appointment, you can ask as many questions as you like to advance your understanding of the treatment. There will be a medical questionnaire to be filled out about your health and medications. Some health conditions and medications will unfortunately exempt you from laser treatment. A patch test will be performed on your skin to ensure the laser settings are suitable for you. 4-7 days after your patch test, we will commence your laser treatment.

Before laser therapy, it is very important that you keep your face away from sun exposure. This is crucial both before and after the treatment. The lasers work on providing a specific heat at a specific depth in your tissue to produce a desired end point. This end point can be exacerbated if exposed to sun and can cause unwanted side effects.

What Can I Expect During the Treatment?
You will be required to wear protective eye shields during the treatment. This protects your eyes from the intense laser light.

This laser treatment is not at all uncomfortable. There is no need to prepare your skin with anaesthetic. Most people will describe the treatment as a warm sensation and warm pins. Border Medical Laser & Aesthetics has a Koolio Machine that blows out chilled air onto the skin during or post treatment if you ever feel uncomfortable. Our laser consultant will talk with you all the way through the procedure to ensure your comfort.

The procedure will take about half an hour but does depend on the amount of pigmentation to be removed. This ‘Green Toning’ laser treatment will need to be performed three times, with a 6-week rest period between treatments. This will allow your immune system an optimal period of time to remove the unwanted pigment before the next session.

What Can I Expect After My Treatment?
There is no complex post-laser regime to follow after your treatment. Your skin may feel warm for a few hours after your treatment, but should not bother you. You are able to resume your normal daily activities, but exercise should be kept to a minimum for a day, just to let your skin rest before excess heat and sweating occurs. Avoiding direct sun exposure remains very important over the next week with the regular use of sunscreen.
