MEDICAL-GRADE CHEMICAL PEELS

A chemical peel is a skin rejuvenation or skin resurfacing procedure that makes the texture of your skin smoother by removing the top layers of dead skin. Chemical peels can make rough skin softer and smoother. This type of procedure is perfect for patients who are not ready for injectables or lasers. However, chemical peels can augment or prolong the results in patients who have used the chemical peel in conjunction with another procedure.

Chemical peels induce accelerated exfoliation and cause a controlled injury to the top layers of the skin. The resulting healing process encourages the deposition of collagen, thickening of the skin, and repair of sun-damaged skin. With some peels, oil gland production can also be reduced, which makes it a great option to complement any acne or anti-aging skincare regimen.

Will My Skin Benefit from Peels?
If you are presenting with acne problems, enlarged pores, excessive oil production, redness and rosacea, ageing and fine lines, hyper pigmented skin, or skin is feeling dull and dry, Chemical Peels are of great benefit!

Prior to Your Visit
Every person wishing to be treated at Border Medical Laser & Aesthetics will require an appointment with our consultant. At this appointment you can ask as many questions as you like to advance your understanding of the treatment. There will be a medical questionnaire to be filled out about your health, and medications. Some health conditions, and medications will unfortunately exempt you from this treatment.

The consultant will review your treatment options with you, as well as pre-treatment requirements, designing your personalised treatment plan. The consultant will also provide you with a regime you will need to begin prior to your first peel in order to prepare your skin for the treatment.

Before your treatment, it is very important that you keep your face away from sun exposure. This is crucial both before and after the treatment. The end point can be exacerbated if exposed to sun, and can cause unwanted side effects.

What Can I Expect During The Chemical Peel?
This treatment is not at all uncomfortable. There is no need to prepare your skin with anaesthetic. Most people will describe the treatment as a warm tingling sensation during the application. Border Medical Laser staff have controls in place to remove the peel during the treatment should you ever feel uncomfortable. Our consultant will talk with you all the way through the procedure to ensure your comfort. The procedure will take between 15–30 minutes.

What Can I Expect after My Chemical Peel?
There is no complex post-laser regime to follow after your treatment. Your skin may feel warm for a few hours after your treatment, but should not bother you. You may also notice your face is pink in places, and you will feel quite tight immediately after; this is very normal.

Immediately after your peel, for the first 8 hours, do not apply additional products on the skin, and do not expose to water. Your consultant may apply soothing lotion before you leave if the area is irritated. You should avoid waxing, hair removal, and any active ingredients for at least 24–48 hours afterward.

You are able to resume your normal daily activities, but exercise should be kept to a minimum for a day, just to let your skin rest, before excess heat and sweating occurs, as well as avoiding showering or washing the treated area for at least 8 hours after the treatment. Avoiding direct sun exposure remains very important over the next week, with the regular use of sunscreen.

1–2 days later, you are able to start back up your normal skincare regime (reintroducing active ingredients), as per the instruction of the consultant. Your skin may also peel for 5–7 days post the treatment, this is also normal. This is the peel going to work with the dead skin cells.

Ongoing Treatments
Your consultant will have provided you with a personalised treatment plan, of which your peels will be planned out over a time, which normally involve 6–8 for a standard course. In between these visits, it is important to adhere to the post care items your consultant has given in order to maximise your results, as each peel may increase in percentage, making it more important than ever to ensure your skin is prepped and ready for the next steps.
