LASER HAIR REMOVAL

LASER HAIR REMOVAL

LASER HAIR REMOVAL

Hair removal for men is a very popular treatment. In days gone by, men used to be proud of their hairy chests, unbuttoning their shirts and exposing them. But these days, this fashion seems to have gone, and many men are taking more interest in their appearance in relation to their hair growth, whether it be the pruning of facial hair or removing body hair by shaving, waxing or applying hair removal creams!

Excessive Hair Growth

The male hormone testosterone is responsible for the growth of hair, and in some men this can be excessive. Men no longer need to put up with this superfluous hair growth which makes them feel uncomfortable. The arms, back and chest are often the places this excessive hair growth can occur. Not all men want this hair to be completely gone, but they would like it at least thinned out so they feel more comfortable in summer when swimming, wearing tank tops and going to the gym, or in winter when playing football.

Total Hair Removal

Some men prefer to go further than a reduction of hair and would prefer total hair removal. Such men may be cyclists, bodybuilders, swimmers or dancers.

Tattoos

Tattoos are very popular, and what makes a tattoo look more effective is the removal of hair before a tattoo is applied. Laser hair removal cannot be performed after a tattoo has been done, so ideally a series of hair removal treatments can occur before the tattoo artwork commences.

Pilonidal Sinus

This is a cleft at the top end of the buttocks where skin and hair can be trapped, and can cause inflammation and a cyst. Hair removal can be performed in this region from a known sufferer to prevent any further flare-ups and surgical intervention.

Male or Female Laser Technician

We understand that sometimes people can be embarrassed about their hair growth and having hair removal treatment. At Border Medical Laser & Aesthetics, we want you to feel as comfortable as possible. We have both a male and a female laser technician who can perform your laser treatment. If you would prefer one more than the other, we are happy for you to specify when you book in. Our laser consultants are all experienced nurses and laser technicians and can be trusted professionally to make you feel comfortable.

How Laser Hair Removal Works

Our new Alma Harmony and Fotona® Laser technology has enabled high levels of efficiency for safe and effective hair reduction that effectively targets hair follicles. It works by destroying the microscopic blood flow to the hair follicle and selectively destroying it. Hair growth goes through a number of different phases of growth and will only be eliminated in an active phase. This is why a number of treatments are required [4-6], every 4-8 weeks, to eliminate all of the hair follicles.

Consultation With Our Medical Team

Before any laser treatment can occur, your skin needs to be protected from the sun for about 2 weeks. During this time, you will have a consultation with one of our laser technicians, who are both experienced nurses. Your procedure will be discussed, and you will be free to ask any questions. An overview of your health history and medications will be discussed to ensure laser therapy is ideal for you. A patch test will be conducted to ensure your suitability with laser therapy. In 4-7 days, you will be able to commence your laser therapy.

What Can I Expect During My Laser Therapy?

The hair treatment will last for about 30-40 minutes, depending on how much hair you are having removed. There is some discomfort involved with this procedure. There will be a warming of the skin, and some people describe this like being flicked with a rubber band. When providing hair removal treatment using the Fotona Laser, the Koolio Machine, which blows -37 degree cold air onto the site, can be used simultaneously to numb the skin during the procedure. Should the hair removal use the Alma Laser, the handpiece itself has a cooling mechanism that constantly provides relief during the treatment, and this laser is quite comfortable. Emla cream can be bought from the pharmacist and applied about an hour before the treatment and this will give you further comfort. You are always able to talk to your laser consultant about how you are feeling during the treatment, and they will work with you to ensure your comfort.

What Can I Expect After My Laser Therapy?

You must keep your treated area out of direct sunlight, as this will exacerbate the laser therapy treatment and may change the desired outcome. This means covering up with clothes and sunscreen and being sure to keep to shaded areas if outdoors. Your skin may feel warm like very mild sunburn for the next couple hours, though this will fade as the time passes.

LASER HAIR REMOVAL FOR WOMEN

Shaving, plucking, waxing, creams and threading are the simplest methods of hair removal. However, these solutions are very short-term solutions, time-consuming, painful and irritating to the skin. Waxing gives a little more reprieve, but causes tears to the eyes, skin irritation and ingrown hairs, and through minor trauma to the treated area, waxing can in fact promote new hair growth.

Laser hair removal is the gold standard for permanent hair removal. The treatment is non-invasive, safe, efficient and long-lasting. Border Medical Laser & Aesthetics has the state-of-the-art Alma Harmony and Fotona® Lasers which provide safe and effective unwanted hair removal.
